Peshawar: Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has approved the monetisation of free electricity units for its officers, replacing the benefit with fixed monthly cash allowances. The decision was approved by the PESCO Board of Directors and is effective from August 1, 2026. This is therefore an approved PESCO policy change, not merely a future WAPDA proposal.
Under the new arrangement, Grade-17 officers will receive Rs15,858 per month instead of 450 free units, Grade-18 officers Rs21,996 instead of 600 units, Grade-19 officers Rs37,594 instead of 880 units, and Grade-20 officers Rs46,992 instead of 1,100 units.
The change follows the federal Power Division’s broader policy to replace free electricity units for officers in BPS-17 and above with monetised benefits. In April 2026, the Lahore High Court upheld that policy, ruling that free electricity was a concessional service benefit that could lawfully be converted into a cash allowance.
