Crackdown launched against overcharging mafia in Lahore markets

The district administration has launched an aggressive crackdown against overcharging in vegetable, fruit, meat and chicken markets across the city. Assistant Commissioner City Babar Ali Rai conducted inspections at multiple markets after reports that official price lists were not being implemented. During the operation, around 150 shopkeepers were fined a total of Rs 150,000 for violating government rates, while two shops and two warehouses involved in hoarding essential commodities were sealed. Officials said daily price monitoring is being carried out by price control magistrates, and strict action including FIRs and sealing will continue against repeat violators.
