Free transport usage surges by 61% across Punjab

Lahore: Free public transport services introduced by the Punjab government have witnessed a significant surge in ridership, with usage increasing by 61 percent compared to normal days. According to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority, more than 1.03 million passengers benefited from free travel on April 6 alone. The Orange Line Metro Train served over 340,000 passengers, while Lahore Metro Bus and Speedo buses recorded over 157,000 and 163,000 commuters respectively. Electric buses and services in Rawalpindi and Multan also saw strong participation. Officials stated that the initiative is encouraging citizens to shift from private vehicles to public transport, reducing fuel expenses and improving urban mobility across major cities in Punjab.
