Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to accelerate the expansion of fibre optic infrastructure across the province to strengthen digital connectivity for IT, e-commerce and online businesses. Recommendations have been prepared to abolish the right of way fee imposed on fixed line operators, with formal approval expected from the Punjab Cabinet. Officials stated that removal of charges related to fibre optic cable laying will reduce costs and encourage investment in fibre-to-home projects. The initiative aims to provide faster and more affordable internet services in both urban and rural areas. Authorities believe the move will boost digital services, e-governance, online education and IT-based enterprises, supporting long-term economic growth and smart urban development.
