UAE Plans New Fujairah Port to Bypass Strait of Hormuz

Dubai-based port operator DP World is reportedly planning a new multipurpose port and container terminal on the UAE’s east coast in Fujairah, aimed at reducing reliance on the Strait of Hormuz and Dubai’s Jebel Ali hub. The proposed facilities would allow cargo to arrive through the Gulf of Oman and move overland to major UAE cities and other destinations.

According to reports, the company is considering a new multipurpose port in the Fujairah coastal area as well as a container terminal at an existing harbour. The plan comes amid regional shipping disruptions and a broader UAE push to strengthen trade and logistics resilience. Reuters noted that the reported project details were based on sources familiar with the matter and had not been independently verified by Reuters.
