Tarbela 4th Extension Project Becomes Fully Operational, Adds 1,410MW to Grid

ISLAMABAD: The Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project has become fully operational, adding 1,410 megawatts of low-cost electricity to Pakistan’s national grid. Officials said the project will significantly reduce reliance on expensive imported fuels and help stabilize electricity generation costs. The additional hydropower capacity is expected to support long-term energy sustainability by increasing the share of renewable energy in the national mix. Authorities added that the project will also improve grid reliability and contribute to meeting rising electricity demand across the country, especially during peak consumption periods.
