Six Rawalpindi projects delayed due to Punjab budget constraints

Rawalpindi: Punjab’s financial constraints have forced the postponement of six major development projects in Rawalpindi, now unlikely to receive funding until at least December 31, 2027. Key schemes affected include the Leh Expressway, Ghazi Barotha Water Project, Mother and Child Hospital, and the Murree Road signal-free corridor. Project costs have escalated significantly over the years, with the Leh Expressway now estimated at Rs100 billion and the Ghazi Barotha Water Project at Rs110 billion. Officials note that funding priorities have shifted toward foreign-backed projects, leaving domestic initiatives delayed. Analysts suggest that these postponements could affect urban infrastructure growth, investment opportunities, and public confidence in timely project delivery. Can future budget allocations restore momentum for Rawalpindi’s development plans?
