Serena Underpass road reportedly sinks again after Islamabad rains

Islamabad: A section of road at the Serena Underpass has reportedly subsided again following heavy monsoon rainfall and widespread water accumulation in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Images circulating online show damage near the recently constructed interchange, raising fresh concerns about drainage arrangements and the durability of the surrounding road infrastructure. No detailed technical assessment from the Capital Development Authority was immediately available in the reports reviewed. The Serena Chowk Interchange was inaugurated in February 2025 after the government said it had been completed in 72 days. Built at an estimated cost of Rs4.25 billion, the project comprises three underpasses and connecting roads around Serena Chowk, Khayaban-i-Suhrawardi and Srinagar Highway.
