The Punjab government has launched major post-harvest infrastructure projects to strengthen the agricultural supply chain, with approval granted by the Planning and Development Board. According to Dr. Kiran Khurshid, Sector Head Price Control and Commodities Management, the Punjab Agriculture Commodities Storage and Packaging project is being implemented at a cost of Rs0.5 billion and includes the construction of 100 cold storages and warehouses across the province. The initiative aims to reduce post-harvest losses, stabilize the rural economy, and improve storage of fruits, vegetables, and grains through controlled-environment technology. Officials said the project will enhance linkages between farmers, traders, and exporters, benefiting small and medium farmers, cooperatives, and young entrepreneurs. The scheme is expected to cut grain losses by up to 10 percent, reduce fruit and vegetable waste by up to 30 percent, increase farmers’ incomes by 20–30 percent, and generate over 1,000 jobs.
