Punjab Ordinance Introduces Strict Law Against Illegal Property Occupation

The Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance 2025 establishes a comprehensive legal framework to combat illegal occupation of property across the province. The law clearly defines immovable property and criminalizes possession obtained through force, fraud, forgery, deception, or without lawful authority, carrying penalties of up to five years imprisonment. A government-appointed committee will initially hear complaints and attempt resolution within 90 days, extendable if required. Unresolved cases will be referred to a specially constituted tribunal with powers equivalent to civil and sessions courts. The tribunal can summon evidence, order arrests, and direct immediate restoration of possession to rightful owners. The ordinance also penalizes false complaints and holds company officials accountable in cases involving corporate entities, ensuring swift justice and stronger protection of property rights
