Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated what the provincial government describes as Pakistan’s first fully electric road-sweeper truck, introducing a new machine for road cleaning and washing on Lahore Ring Road.According to the government’s media briefing, the Chief Minister inspected the vehicle and received a detailed presentation about its operation and cleaning capabilities. The electric sweeper is designed to sweep roads, wash road surfaces and collect water from the roadway. Unlike conventional diesel-powered cleaning vehicles, the new machine operates using electricity.Officials stated that the vehicle can cover an operating range of up to 70 kilometres after charging. However, its actual range may vary depending on road conditions, battery capacity and the cleaning equipment being used. The government expects the sweeper to reduce roadside dust, lower vehicle noise and eliminate exhaust emissions from the vehicle during operation. The electric system may also reduce spending on diesel and some routine maintenance requirements. However, charging, equipment servicing and battery maintenance will still involve costs. The new vehicle is intended to support Lahore’s wider road-cleaning and environmental improvement efforts, with Lahore Ring Road identified as its operating location. The government’s claim that this is Pakistan’s first fully electric road-sweeper truck has not yet been independently established against other electric sweeping vehicles in the country.
