Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has expanded its solid waste management services to Zones 4 and 5 of Islamabad, introducing organised garbage collection and cleanliness operations for rural and suburban communities.According to the latest project update, the service is designed to cover approximately 484 square kilometres and benefit more than 1.1 million residents, with a reported workforce of 1,550 and 103 vehicles and machinery units. The programme includes areas such as Bara Kahu, Bani Gala, Tramri, Lehtrar Road, Shahzad Town, Humak, Sihala, Lohi Bher, Kirpa, Rawat, Gagri and adjoining localities, including covered private housing societies.CDA’s official announcement confirms that the expanded service covers 65 union councils, primarily in Zones 4 and 5, where residents previously had limited access to regular municipal waste collection.Under the direction of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the leadership of CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf, the authority has engaged a Turkish-led waste management operator to provide modern cleaning equipment and organised waste collection services.According to CDA, the programme is designed to manage approximately 342 tonnes of solid waste daily, using dedicated sanitation workers and specialised vehicles. The initiative aims to improve the cleanliness of residential streets, markets and public spaces while extending municipal services beyond Islamabad’s central sectors. The exact workforce, machinery deployment and reported population coverage should be assessed against the operational records as services expand across the designated areas.
