Kot Addu: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the opening of the TDCP Dolphin Resort at Taunsa Barrage, offering visitors a new riverside tourism destination where they may spot the rare Indus River dolphin in its natural habitat.
Developed along the Indus River on 120 kanals of land, the resort is part of the Punjab government’s Magnificent Punjab tourism initiative.
In a message posted on X on November 5, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz described the experience of enjoying morning tea while watching the rare Indus dolphin surface in the river.
According to the government’s announcement, the eco-friendly resort offers accommodation, dining facilities and panoramic terrace views of the Indus River, combining tourism with awareness of wildlife conservation.
The Indus River dolphin, also called Bhulan, is an endangered freshwater species found in the Indus River system. It has extremely limited eyesight and uses sound to navigate and find food.
The new resort is expected to attract families, nature lovers and tourists to the Taunsa Barrage area while promoting awareness of Punjab’s natural heritage.
However, sightings of wild dolphins depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed. Details such as room rates, project cost and verified visitor numbers have not yet been disclosed.
