Lahore: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique says 105 water tanks with a reported capacity of 18 million gallons are being developed across 51 cities under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP). According to the latest review, 92 underground tanks have already been completed.
The programme also includes 124 drains covering 77 kilometres. The minister said 92 drains have been completed, while work is continuing rapidly on another six. These projects are part of the province’s wider sewerage and drainage improvement programme across 51 cities.
Another major part of the plan is the construction and rehabilitation of 81 disposal stations. Work has started on 23 disposal stations, while the remaining 58 are expected to begin in phases. The provincial government also plans to shift these stations to solar power, which the minister says could reduce electricity costs and improve urban-flood drainage operations.
The broader Punjab Development Plan has already been described as a large-scale upgrade of sewerage and drainage infrastructure across 51 cities, including thousands of kilometres of sewer lines and dozens of drainage schemes.
