Punjab Approves Plan to Split Lahore Into Two Districts

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has granted in-principle approval to divide Lahore into two separate districts to improve governance and public service delivery. The provincial government said the move aims to reduce administrative pressure on the rapidly growing city and ensure faster handling of civic issues. Under the proposed structure, each district will have its own deputy commissioner, police administration, and municipal system. Authorities plan to redefine administrative boundaries to allow more focused management of traffic, encroachments, and municipal services. Officials confirmed that preparations for the administrative restructuring will begin after the Basant festival, with relevant departments directed to complete transition arrangements. The government believes the division will streamline administration and enhance efficiency in addressing urban challenges.
