PTA Extends Disown Period for New SIMs from 60 Days to 1 Year to Prevent Fraud

Islamabad – Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has updated its SIM disown policy, extending the period for newly activated SIM cards from 60 days to 365 days. Under the new guidelines, users cannot disown or transfer newly issued SIMs to another person within one year of activation. PTA stated that this move aims to curb illegal SIM issuance, fake registrations, and security threats. Citizens are also advised to exercise caution during biometric verification and regularly check their SIM registration details linked to their CNIC. This policy ensures better control over mobile networks and enhances security for telecom users across Pakistan.
