Islamabad’s Kashmir Chowk Underpass Reaches 51% Completion in Just Two Weeks

Islamabad: Construction of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass has reached 51% completion in just over two weeks, according to the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The project, valued at approximately Rs1.4 billion, is being fast-tracked to improve traffic flow at one of the capital’s busiest intersections.

CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf reviewed construction progress during a site visit on October 23, 2026. Officials reported that work had crossed the halfway mark despite a two-day disruption caused by rainfall. The chairman directed engineering teams to maintain construction quality, safety standards and traffic management while accelerating the remaining work.

The project includes dedicated underpasses for vehicles travelling from the Serena side and from Faizabad towards Murree, along with four additional slip roads. According to CDA estimates, approximately 107,000 vehicles use Kashmir Chowk daily, making traffic congestion a major concern during peak hours.

CDA is targeting completion by the end of the first week of November 2026. Once operational, the new infrastructure is expected to reduce traffic delays and improve movement between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. However, the opening date remains a target, and the project has not yet been completed or opened to traffic.
