Pakistan cuts Gwadar Port charges to boost global trade

Gwadar: The federal government has announced major reductions in Gwadar Port charges to attract more international trade and strengthen the port’s role as a regional logistics hub. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said berthing charges for container ships have been reduced by 25 percent, while international transshipment container charges have been cut by 40 percent. Transit container cargo charges have also been reduced by up to 31 percent, and the free storage period for general cargo has been extended from five days to one month. These measures can make Gwadar more competitive for shipping, transit business and CPEC-linked trade. Will this turn Gwadar into a stronger regional trade gateway?
