Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded two contracts worth AED 1.161 billion for the Al Meydan Street Development Project, a major road scheme designed to strengthen north–south connectivity and ease traffic across key parts of the emirate.
The project will deliver around 17 kilometres of roads and 3.7 kilometres of bridges, along with cycling tracks linked to Dubai’s existing network. It will connect important corridors including Al Khail Road, Latifa bint Hamdan Street, Al Marabea’ Street, Umm Suqeim Street and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
One of the biggest expected benefits is a 66% reduction in journey time between Al Manama Street/Dubai–Al Ain Road and Umm Suqeim Street, cutting the trip from around 30 minutes to 10 minutes. The project is also expected to increase north–south traffic capacity by 18% and serve areas with more than 500,000 residents.
