Lahore: The price of simple bread (roti) in Lahore has reportedly increased to Rs20 amid rising operational costs for bakery owners and food vendors. Shopkeepers say they are facing significant pressure due to high LPG prices, poor-quality gas supply, and additional reliance on firewood, which has become increasingly expensive. According to traders, LPG is being purchased at around Rs600 per kg, while firewood costs have also surged, making it difficult to maintain previous pricing structures. Vendors argue that despite fluctuations in global fuel prices, local gas rates have not decreased accordingly. Citizens have urged authorities to take notice of rising food inflation, which is also affecting milk prices and other daily essentials across Punjab. Can effective policy intervention stabilize essential food prices for the common public?
