Karachi records 1,689 mobile snatching cases in June as street crime fears grow

Karachi: The city recorded 1,689 mobile phone snatching incidents in June, averaging nearly 56 cases every day, according to CPLC figures. The alarming numbers have again raised serious concerns over street crime, public safety, and law enforcement performance across Karachi. Citizens say frequent mobile snatching has made daily travel, markets, workplaces, and residential areas feel increasingly unsafe. The situation also affects business confidence, commercial footfall, housing demand, and the overall perception of neighborhood security. Stronger policing, surveillance, hotspot monitoring, and quick response systems are now being demanded to control the rising crime wave. Can effective enforcement restore public confidence in Karachi’s streets?
