Karachi Port handles record cargo in 138-year history

Karachi: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has reached its highest annual cargo handling level in 138 years, marking a major milestone for Pakistan’s maritime economy. According to Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, KPT surpassed its previous all-time record of 54.685 million tonnes, set in FY2017-18. Officials highlight that the growth reflects increased trade activity, improved port efficiency, and rising investor confidence. Analysts suggest that such milestones strengthen Pakistan’s logistics sector, enhance export-import operations, and support long-term economic growth. Can KPT maintain this momentum to further boost national trade capacity?
