Lahore: Intense heat continued across the city as temperatures climbed to nearly 40°C, accompanied by hot winds and rising humidity levels. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that temperatures may remain significantly above normal in many parts of the country from June 7 to June 12, with severe heatwave conditions likely between June 8 and June 11. Medical experts have advised citizens to stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing, and cover their heads when outdoors to reduce health risks. Prolonged heatwaves can affect daily business activity, labor productivity, energy demand, and urban living conditions. Extreme weather also places pressure on public infrastructure and utilities. Will cities be adequately prepared to manage the growing challenges of recurring heatwaves?
