Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Opens Biomass Plant to Fight Smog

Sheikhupura: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif digitally inaugurated Nestlé’s biomass steam plant in Sheikhupura as part of efforts to reduce environmental pollution and smog in Punjab. According to the official statement provided, the modern plant has been established with an investment of around 4.5 million US dollars and is expected to serve as a sustainable alternative to crop-residue burning. The project will reportedly use around 72,000 tons of agricultural residue annually as fuel and produce 30 tons of steam per hour. Officials said the plant may help save nearly 2.15 million US dollars annually in fuel costs while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 24,345 tons per year. The chief minister said the project aligns with Punjab’s priorities of environmental protection, cleaner air and industrial development.
