Anti-corruption case filed over Karachi Yellow Line BRT funds

Karachi: A case has reportedly been registered in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the Karachi Yellow Line BRT project, involving senior project officials. According to reports, former project director Zamir Abbasi and procurement director Jhumman Das have been accused of mismanagement and misuse of funds. Investigators claim that approximately Rs8.5 billion was released as advance payments to contractors, resulting in significant alleged losses to the public exchequer. Authorities say further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses. Meanwhile, an anti-corruption court has dismissed a related petition regarding Abbasi’s alleged detention, citing procedural deficiencies. Officials confirm that the inquiry is ongoing and more evidence is being examined. The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of large-scale urban infrastructure projects and public accountability. Will stronger oversight improve transparency in future transport megaprojects?
