The Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) originated from the Housing and Physical Planning Department established in 1973 and was later restructured under the PHATA Ordinance 2002 to strengthen the housing sector in Punjab. The agency became fully operational in 2004 with a renewed focus on planned urban development and housing initiatives.
PHATA is responsible for promoting affordable housing, particularly for low income and underserved segments, while facilitating town planning and development across the province. Through its evolved structure and decentralized offices, the agency plays a key role in improving access to housing and supporting sustainable urban growth.
