Muhammad Muzamil Awan: Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to expand the “Plant for Pakistan” initiative, increasing its cost and duration to strengthen environmental restoration efforts. Officials stated that the project cost is proposed to rise from Rs 1 billion to Rs 8 billion, with completion time extended from 27 to 51 months. Authorities highlighted that the decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aiming to enhance afforestation and environmental sustainability across the province. The project is now expected to be completed by June 2028. Experts believe that increased investment in large-scale plantation can improve climate resilience, reduce pollution and support long-term ecological balance.
