Punjab to establish biodiversity corridors across province

Lahore: The Parks and Horticulture Authority has decided to establish biodiversity corridors across Punjab to promote environmental sustainability and ecological balance. According to officials, district-level managing directors have been directed to ensure effective implementation of the initiative. The project will prioritize plantation of indigenous tree species such as Shehtoot, Banyan, and Shisham, which require less water and maintenance while supporting local ecosystems. Authorities believe this approach will enhance green cover, conserve resources, and combat climate change impacts. Public awareness campaigns will also be launched to encourage citizen participation in plantation drives. Officials emphasized that community involvement will be key to ensuring the long-term success of the biodiversity initiative.
