Punjab: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched Pakistan’s first-ever government-operated “Deceased Care Service” to provide free and respectful transportation of deceased individuals from hospitals to homes. Officials stated that in Phase One, the service will operate in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan, with plans to expand to all tehsils across Punjab by June. Authorities highlighted that dedicated ambulances, trained rescue staff and 24/7 availability through helpline 1122 will ensure smooth service delivery. Special desks will be established in government hospitals, and the system will be monitored through a smart rescue management system. The initiative aims to support grieving families, eliminate overcharging by private transporters and provide dignified services during difficult times.
