Heavy rain disrupts Raiwind Ijtema, thousands face difficulties amid waterlogging

Lahore: Heavy rainfall in Raiwind and surrounding areas disrupted the annual religious congregation, leaving thousands of participants facing severe difficulties. On the very first day, the gathering site was flooded, making it hard for attendees to sit or stay. Many people were forced to search for safer areas on their own. Reports indicate that multiple LESCO feeders tripped, while temporary mobile towers installed at the site became non-functional, affecting communication. Rainwater accumulation was also observed on key roads including Manga Mandi Road and Sundar Road, causing traffic disruptions. Participants and locals criticised the district administration for poor planning and inadequate drainage arrangements, stating that even a short spell of rain exposed serious management flaws.
