Court reserves verdict on petition against petrol price cut

Lahore: A division bench headed by Justice Hassan Khan Makhdoom has reserved its verdict on a petition challenging the recent marginal reduction in petrol prices. During the hearing, the government’s lawyer argued that the state has legal authority to impose petroleum levy and requested dismissal of the petition. Counsel Azhar Siddique contended that fuel pricing falls under parliamentary jurisdiction and that levy limits are defined by law. The petitioner claimed the minor price cut is discriminatory, non-transparent and financially exploitative for citizens. Concerns were also raised over unchanged diesel prices, potentially impacting farmers and transport sectors. The court will announce its decision after reviewing all arguments.
