Lahore: The Punjab government has announced a major housing initiative under which 3,200 journalists will be provided residential plots through the Punjab Journalists Housing Foundation. The decision was discussed in a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bukhari, where officials reviewed the scrutiny process for applications submitted for Phase II of the Journalists Housing Society. A scrutiny committee has been formed to evaluate applications from both Lahore Press Club members and non-member journalists, with the committee expected to submit its report within 15 days. Authorities also discussed the payment structure, under which journalists will pay monthly instalments of Rs15,000 for seven years, with the remaining amount payable in the final instalment. The government stated that only one plot will be allotted per family to ensure maximum eligible journalists benefit from the scheme.
