Punjab launches development schemes in 46 cities under development programme

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique chaired a review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess progress under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP). Officials informed the meeting that development schemes have commenced in 46 cities, while work orders for five additional cities will be issued soon. The “Maryam Nawaz ka Sohna Punjab” initiative focuses on improving municipal services, particularly sewerage systems and stormwater drainage in long-neglected urban areas. The meeting also reviewed plans to construct underground water tanks using a Japanese model to help manage rainwater and recharge groundwater reserves. Authorities were directed to strictly monitor contractors and ensure projects are completed within the stipulated timeline with full transparency.
