Rawalpindi Ring Road Cost Increases by Rs. 6 Billion, Total Likely to Exceed Rs. 55 Billion

RAWALPINDI: The estimated cost of the 38-kilometre Rawalpindi Ring Road project has increased by an additional Rs6 billion, pushing the total beyond Rs53 billion, with final costs expected to exceed Rs55 billion. Authorities have completed nearly 80 percent of carpeting work, and traffic has already started using several sections. Construction of the Rs5 billion Thalian interchange connecting the ring road with the motorway is underway. Approved in 2004 at Rs17 billion, the project has faced repeated cost escalations. Industrial zones and commercial areas planned along the route are expected to significantly reshape Rawalpindi’s urban and real estate landscape.
