Punjab revises daily wages for government construction workers from July to December 2026

Lahore: The Punjab government has announced revised daily wage rates for workers employed on government development and construction projects for the July to December 2026 period. Under the new rates, unskilled workers will receive Rs. 1,538 per day, while skilled workers including electricians, plumbers, welders, and masons will be paid Rs. 2,000 daily. Semi-skilled workers such as gardeners and chainmen will receive Rs. 1,560 per day, while the minimum monthly wage has been fixed at Rs. 40,000. Officials say these revised rates will be used in public project cost estimates across Punjab. The move is expected to improve worker earnings while directly affecting construction budgets, contractor pricing, and development planning. Will these revised wages strengthen both labour welfare and project transparency?
