Lahore: The Punjab government has launched a major cleanliness and anti-smog campaign called “Chamkta Lahore” under the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aiming to reduce roadside dust and improve cleanliness across the city.
Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique inaugurated the campaign at Liberty Chowk on November 3, 2026. The event was attended by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Shoaib Mirza, Lahore Deputy Commissioner Ali Ijaz and Lahore Waste Management Company officials.
Under the initiative, 10 rickshaw-mounted anti-smog mist guns will be deployed to spray water into the air and help settle dust particles.
The government has initially identified 100 roads, locations and commercial markets for targeted cleaning. The announced plan includes washing approximately 100 kilometres of roads daily and 648 kilometres weekly.
A fleet of 16 mechanical road washers and 46 rickshaw-mounted washers will also be used to clean roads and footpaths.
Officials say the initiative aims to improve road cleanliness, control airborne dust and support Lahore’s wider efforts to tackle smog.
However, the actual impact of the campaign on overall air pollution will depend on its implementation and measured air-quality results.
