Punjab Launches Rs500,000 Interest Free Apni Chhat Mehfooz Chhat Loan Programme

The Punjab government has introduced the “Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat” programme to help low-income families strengthen vulnerable homes before and during the monsoon season. Under the initiative, eligible homeowners can receive interest-free loans of up to Rs500,000 to reinforce roofs, walls and other structural components of their houses. The programme is linked with the broader Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing initiative and aims to reduce the risk of weather-related damage while improving the safety of existing homes. Officials say the scheme is designed to support families living in structurally weak houses and enhance community resilience against heavy rainfall and flooding.
