Punjab launches Green Mobility initiative with 50,000 e-bikes in Lahore

Lahore: The Punjab government has officially launched the “Green Mobility Initiative” under the Chief Minister’s vision to promote environmentally friendly public transport. The program introduces 50,000 electric bikes in Lahore, with 1,500 smart docking stations across parks, green belts, and public spaces. The first phase will deploy 10,000 bikes, expanding coverage over 18 months. The initiative operates under a 100% private investment BOO (Build-Own-Operate) model, with an initial investment of Rs. 8.1 billion. Users will benefit from a mobile app with GPS tracking, real-time monitoring, and CNIC-based authentication, while fares remain highly affordable. The project is expected to reduce approximately 5,000 tons of annual CO₂ emissions, improve air quality, lower fuel import costs, and create local employment opportunities, establishing sustainable urban mobility in Lahore.
