Punjab Introduces Pakistan’s First EPA-Certified “Liquid Tree” to Combat Urban Pollution

LAHORE – As part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to make Punjab an environmentally friendly province, the first EPA-certified “Liquid Tree” is being deployed from Faisalabad to Lahore. This innovative artificial tree uses microalgae to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, monitored through an AI-based system to track CO2 capture in real time. Over seven months, various algae strains were tested for carbon sequestration efficiency, with the most effective sourced from Sukkur, Sindh, and cultivated at GC University Faisalabad. Initially, the liquid trees will be installed indoors and outdoors in major malls and commercial areas. Officials anticipate this scientific innovation will significantly reduce urban pollution, smog, and carbon emissions.
