Punjab has completed 82 underground water-storage tanks and 63 drains under the Punjab Development Programme, as work continues across 49 cities. The progress was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Provincial Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique at the Programme Management Unit in Garden Town.
According to the briefing, 51 underground tanks had been completed by June, while another 31 were finished by mid-July, taking the total to 82. Work on 22 additional tanks has reached around 70 percent. The first phase of the programme includes 105 underground water-storage tanks designed to help reduce urban flooding.
The programme also covers 124 drains. Of these, 63 have now been completed, compared with 27 by June, while construction on another 26 drains is between 70 and 90 percent complete. The minister directed the project-management team to accelerate the remaining work and ensure compliance with the timelines set under the Punjab government’s urban development agenda.
