Punjab Clears 4 Sports Grounds, Rawalpindi Complex to Add 29 Revenue Shops

Lahore: Punjab’s Sports Department has approved the construction of four multipurpose sports grounds in the katcha areas of Rajanpur, Sadiqabad and Rahim Yar Khan, following a Departmental Development Sub-Committee meeting chaired by Secretary Sports Punjab Fazal-ur-Rehman at Punjab Stadium on September 11, 2026. The planned grounds will also include walking tracks and seating steps for spectators.

The meeting also took key decisions regarding the proposed Begum Najma Hameed Multipurpose Sports Complex in Rawalpindi. Plans include a gymnasium, cricket ground, floodlights and other modern sports facilities. The complex is also planned to include 29 shops for revenue generation.

However, the land arrangement is still a pending step: officials said an MoU with Pakistan Railways will be signed regarding land for the Rawalpindi sports complex. Therefore, the project should currently be described as being in the planning/approval process rather than under construction.
