Punjab Can Generate 41% of Pakistan’s Electricity, Says Energy Minister

Punjab Energy Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar chaired the department’s first high-level briefing, where officials reported major progress across solar, hydro, biogas, wind, and waste-to-energy projects. The Energy Secretary revealed that Punjab currently holds the capacity to produce 41% of Pakistan’s total electricity—marking a major milestone for the province. Under the Chief Minister’s Free Solar Panel Scheme, 55,000 solar units have already been installed, while 14,450 government institutions have successfully been solarized. Five major companies have completed prequalification for waste-to-energy initiatives, with the first plant’s report submitted to the cabinet. Briefings highlighted rapid development of thermal, hydel, and biogas plants in Marala, Chianwali, and Pakpattan. The minister emphasized reliable, affordable, and locally produced energy as top priorities and directed all departments to accelerate ongoing and future projects.
