Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Orders Digital Fuel Tracking and OGRA Reforms

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on July 31, 2026, to review reforms and improve the working capacity of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority. He ordered a nationwide digital system to track petroleum products from ports and refineries to storage depots and petrol pumps. The system will follow the model used by the Federal Board of Revenue and is intended to help identify fuel hoarding, false supply shortages and illegal profit-making. The prime minister also directed OGRA’s reorganisation and transparent, merit-based hiring of qualified private-sector experts. Officials said several tracking tools are already active, including tanker tracking, depot monitoring and digital sales records. No new fuel price, budget or final completion date was announced.
