Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level law and order meeting in which officials said the Safe City project had been completed in all 43 districts and would be formally inaugurated soon. She approved more than 2,000 additional cameras for Lahore and directed the project’s expansion to 98 tehsils and river-side Katcha areas. The Safe City system uses cameras, control rooms and digital links to help police monitor roads and respond quickly. The chief minister also ordered mobile police stations to provide services at citizens’ doorsteps. Officials said 29,000 body cameras would be provided to police by the first week of September. A CTD cell for blasphemy-related cases and a separate cybercrime unit were also reported.
