PPL Makes New Gas Discovery at Dolphin X-1 Well in Sujawal

Karachi: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a gas discovery from its Dolphin X-1 exploratory well in District Sujawal, Sindh. PPL operates the Sirani Exploration Licence with a 75% working interest, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited holds the remaining 25%. The well was spudded on April 17, 2026 and drilled to a measured depth of 3,850 metres to test the Chiltan Formation. During post-acid testing, good-quality gas with a heating value of about 1,000 Btu/scf flowed at approximately 0.942 million standard cubic feet per day at a wellhead pressure of 211 psig. PPL said the discovery confirms the presence of a petroleum system and opens a new exploration frontier in the marshy onshore area and its possible shallow-offshore extensions.
