Islamabad: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced plans to establish a 400-acre Garments City at Port Qasim, Karachi, aimed at expanding Pakistan’s high-value apparel manufacturing and export capacity. The first phase will cover 250 acres, with 35 per cent reserved for internal roads, utilities and green areas. The proposed public-private partnership will initially include 32 industrial plots, while Port Qasim Authority will provide water, electricity, gas and supporting infrastructure. The project also envisages a one-window facility for exporters, specialised customs desks and dedicated transport corridors. Official projections estimate 138,125 jobs in the first phase and annual exports of around $2.2 billion.V
