A fresh monsoon spell has brought rain and thunderstorms to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and several parts of Punjab, providing relief from intense heat and humid conditions. Heavy downpours have also caused water accumulation in some low-lying areas, increasing the need for timely drainage and emergency preparedness.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Flood Forecasting Division expects scattered rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls, over Islamabad, northern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and the upper catchments of major rivers from July 11 to 13. The wet spell is expected to continue in the short term.
The National Disaster Management Authority has warned of an elevated landslide risk in northern regions and possible flash flooding in mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir. Tourists, residents and local administrations have been advised to remain alert, avoid vulnerable routes during heavy rain and follow official safety instructions.
