Pakistan Buys Costliest Spot LNG Cargo Amid Supply Disruptions

Islamabad: Pakistan has purchased one of its most expensive spot LNG cargoes in recent years after supply disruptions and regional shipping uncertainties forced the country to enter the international spot market. The emergency procurement is intended to ensure uninterrupted natural gas supplies for domestic consumers and industries amid rising energy demand. However, the high-priced cargo is expected to increase the country’s import bill and place additional pressure on foreign exchange reserves. Energy experts say the development highlights Pakistan’s continued dependence on costly spot market purchases during periods of global supply shortages and underscores the need for long-term LNG supply agreements, diversified energy sources and stronger energy security planning to reduce exposure to volatile international prices.
