OGDC begins production from Pakistan’s first horizontal oil well

Pakistan: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has achieved a major milestone by starting oil production from Pasakhi-13, the country’s first successful horizontal oil well in clastic reservoirs, located in District Hyderabad, Sindh. The well is currently producing around 460 barrels of oil per day (BPD). Drilled to a depth of 2,966 meters, including a 546-meter horizontal section, the project utilized advanced geo-steering technology to precisely target the reservoir. Officials stated that horizontal drilling has significantly improved output, delivering nearly three times higher production compared to conventional wells. The development strengthens Pakistan’s domestic energy production, reduces reliance on imports and highlights OGDC’s growing technical capabilities in advanced drilling technologies.
