Lahore: Lahore Development Authority Director General Tahir Farooq has directed tighter monitoring of illegal construction and unauthorised commercial activity as LDA moves its Town Planning Wing toward a fully digital system. During a visit to the LDA Urban Planning & Design Center, he chaired a meeting on town-planning operations and said the digital centre would support surveillance of violations across the city.
The new setup brings LDA’s town-planning zones under one roof to improve service delivery and centralise monitoring. Officials have also been directed to strengthen field surveillance, speed up recovery of penalties for illegal commercial use and ensure removal of encroachments from setback areas along major commercial corridors.
Farooq further ordered field officers to follow new SOPs, process e-business cases within prescribed timelines and improve traffic management outside schools, including drop lanes and management plans where peak-hour congestion occurs. Performance of Town Planning officers will be evaluated through KPIs, according to the APP-sourced briefing.
The Urban Planning & Design Center is part of a wider LDA reform programme that has also introduced QR-code-based notices, digital sealing/de-sealing records and plans for body cameras for field teams.
